It’s That Busy Time of the Year!
Even the rain didn’t stop the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club (CBGC). The club was scheduled to pick greens for wreath making on Tuesday, November 27th, at the Versailles Estate in Burgess. They also gather the greens in Heathsville and on Ways Creek Road. Needless to say, the rain prevented members from gathering boxwood and other greens to the make wreaths. Thank goodness, the rain stopped on Tuesday. Members and some husbands worked hard to fill trash bags with all the greens needed to make the wreaths and trees. The task was accomplished!
On Wednesday, November 28th, Festival Hall in Reedville was set up to make wreaths and trees. Some members and even some husbands came and set up tables and chairs. Making all these wreaths and trees is quite a task. Some members even started making wreaths ahead of time. When members entered Festival Hall on Thursday, November 28th, everything was ready to go.
The making of the wreaths and trees is the main fund raiser for the club. Most of the members show up and work very hard that day. The majority of members make wreaths or trees, but some of the members inspect the work of the members or make beautiful bows for the wreaths. It is important that all the customers are satisfied with their finished product. It’s not all work and no play. Delicious homemade soups and desserts are served at lunch time. Lunch was organized by Susan Brandli. Let’s not forget the pleasure of working with friends. It’s a good time to catch up with old and new friends. It was another successful event organized by Elizabeth Cali and Sharon Lemke.
CBGC will continue to use those greens and other decorations. The four houses that are on the tour for Christmas on Crockrell's Creek will be decorated by the garden club, and of course the owners of the houses. This fund raiser will be held December 8th and 9th to benefit the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum.
