On October 26th, the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club (CBGC) hostesses once again outdid themselves serving club members their first in-person lunch with beautiful table arrangements in over a year. Sarita Lentz was the Head Hostess with Anne Crawley, Debbie Gillispie, Teresa Neil, Carol Cole and Tricia Mrzyglod assisting.
Program: "The Art of Pressing Flowers, Herbs, and Foliage" by Sheila Weisensale
Our program on the art and methods for pressing horticulture material was presented by Sheila Weisensale. Sheila is from Richmond, has been pressing flowers for 25 years, and has items on display at Hughlett’s Tavern. She explained the mechanics of pressing, what materials to use, and how to store them. She demonstrated how to create a finished product. A display of her pressed flower designs was available for the members to purchase and also used for the door prizes.
Old Business
Sharon Lemke, club president, called the meeting to order. Cindy Boyce gave the devotions and members sang Happy Birthday to October celebrants. The minutes of the September meeting were emailed on October 7th. The Treasurer's report was posted to the Members Area of the website.
Corresponding Secretary - Debbie Gwaltney, reported on correspondence sent or received from September 28 through October 25, 2021.
Commitee Reports
Membership - Sandra Ehlert reported that we had 26 of 45 members attending today.
Hospitality - Carol Cole discussed the Holiday Luncheon planned for December at Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club. November 23rd was the cutoff date for send checks to Elizabeth Cali.
Landscape Design - Debbie Gillispie reported on the Garden Cleanup activities performed at the Reedville Fishermen's Museum and Festival Halle on October 23rd. Debbie, Sharon Lemke, Debbie Gwaltney, and Kathie Truxall worked several hours to prepare the gardens for winter.
Horticulture
Nancy Stogowski presented several award ribbons for horticulture specimens submitted by members:

Floral Design
Kathie Truxall presented award ribbons for the floral exhibits themed "Celebrate Friendship / Celebrate Life:"

Sharon Lemke, Kathie Truxall, Rebecca Elston, Sue Moore, Carole Medlin and Carol Cole made floral arrangements for the Jan Shriver Memorial Service. The floral design for January is decorating boxes. Members can call Kathie or any other of our designers for help with their designs.
New Business
Susan Brandli reported that swags and arrangements will be made at Hughlett's Tavern in Heathsville on December 1st for the Golden Village Christmas event. Live greens, containers, bows, and other materials will be provided. Lunch will be served.
A monetary donation will be given to Northumberland County Public Library in memory of Jan Shriver.
Our next meeting will take place on January 25, 2022. Guest speaker Genny Chase, an Accredited Master Flower Show Judge and Certified Teacher of Ikebana, will discuss creative floral designs.
